Ontario, CA (FSR Training), Oct 21-25

Another rather boring training. Well, the training was full of stuff, it was the town that was boring. Ontario is an ugly, crowded, hot, desert. I tried to drive up into the mountains thinking there would be some hiking trails, but even that wasn't pretty. No need to ever return here!

Rather than make three posts, I'm combining three bike outings in one post. Friday was a regular favorite, the Tour de Willa with Frank and Carlos, then Saturday was biking around Lake Monroe with El, and Sunday was a new ride with the FFW, Orlando Murals. All were great for different reasons and really, any day on the bike with friends is great.  I probably won't post every ride I do. Every weekend I try to get out there. My goal for 2022 is to ride 2000 miles. I think I'm almost to 900 and we are more than halfway through the year, so I need to pick it up a bit! I've started doing some rides with Nona Cycle too, so that gives me more options. Once the temps cool down I'll be able to go longer. Right now we are reaching 95+ degrees everyday with no relief in sight. Frank's Tour de Willa group. It can be anywhere from three to ten people, never a big group, but that's ok. MB Roland Distillery, Oct 4

After day one on site at Fort Campbell, my coworker, O'Shane, and I went on a little tour and tasting at MB Roland Distillery. Great find! It was a very cute little former dairy farm out in the country. The tour was informative and the tasting was fun, and only $5 for veterans! I bought a bottle of pink lemonade moonshine to share with Jenn, which was good when mixed with tonic (too tart on its own). I learned that moonshine is just bourbon that has not aged in a barrel. Makers use it for cash while they are waiting for their bourbon to age. Moonshine takes a few months to created, compared with a few years for bourbon. They can make all sorts of flavors by adding fresh fruit at the fermentation stage. Adorable farm! On the tour Lined up for the tasting (we could pick four)

Oklahoma Aquarium, Aug 31

A work trip to teach ICE to TCC brought me to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I always love to explore the new towns I visit (new to me, I mean) and sometimes I get lucky. This was definitely one of those times. The Oklahoma Aquarium was a terrific surprise. Who would have thought Tulsa, Oklahoma would have a nice aquarium. And actually, this area of town is all nice as far as I can see. Of course, the college campus is on a regional airport outside of the town of Tulsa and everything out here looks very clean and new. The neighborhoods look upscale and a quick peak at Zillow tells me they are in the half million dollar range. Oh well, out of my price range, but so is most of America right now! Not that I'm shopping for a new town, but I must admit, the heat and congestion of central FL is getting to me. Really impressive shark tank with a tunnel through. Of course, you have to love the jellies! Reminds me of home... these little guys should be on a log in a spring fed river. Well, at least here ...
