Dothan Botanical Gardens, Nov 12

I do love a good botanical garden, just like I love a good art museum. Unfortunately, here in Dothan, the botanical garden was almost as disappointing as the art museum. Almost! Maybe in the spring it would have been nice.

The rose garden was done very well. There were even quite a few blooms still on the bushes. I love the smell of roses... so much, I think I want to try my hand at growing my own.

I had fun with the portrait mode on my iPhone :)

That's me, having fun with the timer on my phone. I was able to give myself 10 seconds to run back to the swing and sit before the camera clicked.

There was actually a fair number of statues in this garden. This one was my favorite.

Ireland, Day 12, Jun 26

This would have been the last day of riding, but I choose to sit this one out as well. Too hilly, and far, and windy. Plus, I didn't want to sit in the van for hours on the drive back to Dublin in my cycling clothes. I'm very glad I didn't ride. It looked brutal. Instead, I had a lovely walk and was able to have my last Guiness in the northern most pub in Ireland (got the T-shirt to prove it!). A Bee B&B. Found this on my morning walk while we were waiting for those cycling to head out. Cold and windy.  Marker for the Germans not to bomb during WWII (Ireland was neutral during the war and the Germans were trying to bomb Northern Ireland, since they were part of Great Britian). This one was numbered 80, which was the last. The entire coast of Ireland was marked and numbered (1-80), excluding the coastline that was part of Northern Ireland.  Wild Atlantic Way sign. Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Nov 18-26

Yes, I full week in the park!! I didn't actually stay in the park, so it was more like a full week in Pigeon Forge with the opportunity to visit the park every day. Unfortunately, it was rainy a few of the days so I stayed at the cabin one day and went to the aquarium another day. Other than that, I did visit the park every day. Jenn joined me on the day after Thanksgiving and we explored the Cades Cove section of the park. Here is the cabin I rented for the week. It was just a 10-minute drive from Pigeon Forge and about a 30-minute drive from the park. It was a scary drive up a steep road and my car couldn't even make it up the driveway. Well, it would have made it up the driveway if they had sweep for me, but there was a thick blanket of wet leaves and halfway up the tires lost traction. The cabin itself was terribly dusty and it leaked on the few days we had rain. I could go on and on about my other complaints, but I won't. I'll leave it to say, never again will I re

Ireland, Day 8, Jun 22

This will be Day 6 on the riding calendar. This was the day we got lost trying to get out of town and during all that confusion, Vinny fell and that was the end of her trying to cycle on this trip.  The morning prior to setting off, we all wanted to get t-shirts from a cute little shop, Wild Atlantic Wear so we agreed to set our departure time for 10-ish (which probably turned into 11-ish). Ah, back out in the rolling hills. Saw more cows mixed in with the endless fields of sheep. Our pickup point for the day. I took a picture of this cute little butcher shop (everything was "cute little" in my mind; they called it "wee'). I wish we had specialty shops in Orlando, not just the mega size grocery store where you can walk in, wander around for an hour, and walk out without ever even speaking to one person.  Our stopping point this night was near a beach, but I was not impressed.
