It's My Birthday! May 18

First post in my new blog! I had so much fun blogging in the past, that I thought I would do it again! My first blog was when I was living in KY and trying to figure out where my life was going and where I wanted to be. Well, that led me to quitting my job, selling my condo, joining the Peace Corps and moving to Uganda. My second post was all about my adventure in Uganda, and boy what an adventure that was!!

Now I have been in Orlando for going on five years... or is it six??? Man, time flies! I enjoy my life here in Central Florida and am doing a ton of fun and exciting things. So many things as a matter of fact, I thought it would be great to document what I am up to each year. This blog will start with my 54th birthday and end the day before the 55th. Then maybe I'll keep it going or maybe not. No pressure.

 On May 18th (my birthday), I rode my bike 54 miles to celebrate my 54th birthday. The day fell on a Wednesday so I took the day off from work and did a solo ride. I stuck mostly to the bike trails in Orlando. I was a little short so I had to do circles around the Lake Baldwin neighborhood to make it exactly 54. 

This picture was taken at mile 15. Obviously no makeup... au natural at 54... hmmm, maybe next post I will include a little makeup. Though, honestly, I'm most happy riding or swimming or paddling and none of those activities call for makeup, so don't expect to see me all dolled up too often!

OK, well, that's my first post. Today is May 27th so I'm already late and I have more things to blog about. I'll try to enter again soon to play catch up. I'll let my photos be my guide. If I didn't do anything exciting enough to take a picture of, then it wasn't exciting enough to include in the blog. It is also my goal to only post positive things and only include my happenings (no gossip about the people in my life even if they were with me... well, maybe just no negative gossip because lets face it, the people in your life are a tremendous influence are what/how you are doing and they may get caught in a picture or two).

  What an awesome trip this was!!! The scenery and cycling was amazing. I can't wait to return. Here's a picture dump.  This is the trailer from the tour company. There were two guides, Melanie and Ruth. They did a fantastic job keeping our bikes ready to go and keeping the group of us happy. I will definitely be taking another one of their tours, I just need to decide which one. The harbor view from our hotel. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. The rooms were great, the lobby, restaurant, and breakfast spots were fantastic, and location was amazing. Except for one day when we took a ferry to our ride start, all the rides left right from the hotel and within a mile or two you were in the national park. There were from day one. We were all getting acquainted with out bikes. Some people brought theirs from home, but I think most were rentals. I rented an e-bike and boy was I in heaven!! I highly recommend it if you are going to b in hills and you are on vacatio...

Happy Thanksgiving, Nov 24

 We had a nice day with family at the Beach House on Treasure Island. Same crowd. Jennifer even joined us from KY and Aunt Sandi from NY. Very nice day and week! Dad getting ready to crave the turkey. Dad, Debbie, and Sandi "collaborating". The kitchen was a little hectic to say the least! Donna and I on the beach at sunset. Jen and I checking out the sandcastles before hitting the road back to Orlando the day after Thanksgiving. These are professional sand castle makers, btw!!!

FFW Horrible Hundred, Nov 20

 It was a truly horrible day for the FFW Horrible Hundred (cold and rainy). Thankfully, I was at the SAG stop putting pickles in little paper cups rather than riding my bike!! It was a fun weekend none-the-less. My fellow volunteers were nice and the riders coming through were terrific and very appreciative of our offerings. One of these years I'll have to ride the hills, but maybe not 100 miles! Riders enjoying their pickle juice (and other snacks)!
